My first destination this morning was "The Snake" - 489 curves in about 12 miles! I HAD to ride it 3 times because the first time I got stuck behind some vehicles which took the fun out of it so I turned around and rode it again. Then to get in the direction I needed to go, I HAD to ride it again.
After "The Snake" my next destination was the Blue Ridge Parkway. I road about the 100 miles of it today (in all it is over 450 miles). As I mentioned before, I wanted to get to the southern most end of it and then start working my way back north along it. The Blue Ridge Parkway is very scenic and is taken at a more leisurely pace. The speed limit in most places is 45 MPH. There are many great views. In some places today it was easy to see why they are called the "Smoky Mountains" due to the fog. It was also chilly at the higher altitudes (4,000 - 6,000 feet) but a great ride.
Tomorrow I plan to ride the "Dragon's Tail" (300+ curves in 11 miles) and other roads in the area. I still need to map out my route for tomorrow on the GPS.
Tonight I'm staying at Hunt's Motorcycle Camp near Telico Plains Tennessee.
Some interesting sights I have seen/noticed along on the trip so far:
- People wearing bibs and carrying guns
- You can't imagine how much stuff can be stored on a porch
- A vehicle that had the back end of a Pontiac Fiero and the front was motorcycle - no picture - it was in someone's driveway
- A midget riding a custom chopper just his size
- People here like to use weed wackers (seems like the national past time)
